SPIDER VEINS SYMPTOMS, CAUSES AND TREATMENT

Spider veins appear as thin, red lines or as web-like networks of blood vessels on the surface of the skin. Spider veins, a mild form of varicose veins, typically appear on the legs and feet.

Spider veins are small clusters of dilated blood vessels located close to the surface of the skin.  They are most commonly found on the legs.  They may cause symptoms such as:

1.       Heaviness or Aches:

2.       Burning, Cramps, or Swelling

3.       Skin Discoloration

4.       Itching

5.       Increased Pain After Sitting or Standing for a Long Time

Spider veins are due to an underlying condition known as venous reflux disease.  With venous reflux, the blood in the veins of the legs goes "backward", towards the feet, instead of upwards towards the heart which is the correct direction.  This causes the blood to pool in the small branch veins, causing these to dilate.

Some factors may contribute to the development of spider veins in the legs, including:

1.       Heredity

2.       Hormonal shifts

3.       Occupations or activities that require prolonged sitting or standing

4.       Pregnancy

5.       Weight fluctuation

A regular exercise program and weight loss can help relieve the symptoms of spider veins. Affected people should avoid standing or sitting for prolonged periods and elevate their legs while sitting or sleeping to improve circulation and decrease swelling in their legs.

1.     Vein Ablation

2.     Sclerotherapy

3.     Laser therapy
